“A family who eats together, stays together”

“A family who eats together, stays together”

This well-known expression has never been so important. The world has changed and sitting down to breakfast, lunch or dinner is not such an easy thing to do! Often families rush off to work and school in the mornings, grabbing some fruit or eating porridge on the run. Lunches are usually something packed or bought as few people have the luxury of going home over lunch hour – that is if lunch hour exists at all! That leaves dinner – the most obvious of family meal. But it is not that easy! Evening work commitments, late meetings, sport and school activities all compete for evening-time attention, not to speak about television, social media and smart phones!

Having some kind of rule when it comes to at least one meal a day, is however regarded as a very good thing! According to research and the opinions of those in the know, spending some time with your family, eating together and discussing the day, is at the core of family health. Now, you have the opportunity to see if someone is not his/herself and you can actually ask about the test or meeting or game – and listen to the answer! It is a good opportunity to explore different types of food, to learn proper table manners and it creates a platform for families to relax and laugh together.

The importance of family dinners

If the ideal of a family dinner is just adding to your ever-increasing list of things you do not get to. Don’t fret! Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant has recently introduced Sunday Family Lunch.

In tune with the old Cape tradition of family get-togethers over extended Sunday lunches and as a reflection of the estate’s owners’ appreciation for family values, Sunday lunches are presented in the form of a family meal. Traditional Cape Winelands Cuisine lends itself exceptionally well to this style of food and guests can expect a selection of artisan breads on arrival, a plated starter, main course consisting of two meats of which one will be a roast, as well as a selection of side dishes, vegetables and salads served family-style to share. A plated dessert will conclude the family feast.

The Sunday family lunch costs R325 per person, excluding wine. Children under 12 have the option to share in the menu at a special price of R125 or order from the Children Menu.

The Sunday family lunch will be served on Sundays, 11:30 – 15:30

Reservations are essential.
