Talks on aspects of History, Culture and Art



La Motte has always been committed to the preservation of our heritage, culture and art. To further this focus, a series of very interesting talks and guided walkabouts has been introduced. The upcoming programme includes:

Art in Clay – The Setting, contemporary ceramic tableware

Join us for a guided walkabout of our exhibition, The Setting – contemporary ceramic tableware, as part of the Franschhoek Art in Clay Festival, presented by La Motte Museum Ambassador, Eliz-Marié Schoonbee. Expect beautiful pieces by 30 of South Africa’s foremost contemporary ceramic artists such as David Walters, Clementina van der Walt, Millstone Pottery, Lauren Kaplan, Ralph Johnson, and have the option of booking for a beautifully presented Winelands Tea served in a tea-set made by ceramic artist Ella-Lou O’Meara.

Heritage roses versus the new hybrids

Thursday, 30 October 2014, 17:30 – walking the rose garden. Talk starts promptly at 18:30.

Participating in the annual Franschhoek Open Gardens for the first time, La Motte is hosting South African authority on roses, Ludwig Taschner of Ludwig’s Roses, for a Talk on Heritage Roses versus the new hybrids. Guests are invited for a leisurely stroll through the estate’s classic rose garden from 17:30.

La Motte is passionate about the preservation of South Africa’s art heritage and, as an addition to the contemporary exhibition of The Helgaard Steyn Awards in the La Motte Museum, the curator, Doctor Lydia de Waal, will present a talk and guided walkabout of the exhibition featuring the awarded works.
