Visit our private Rose Gardens!

Participating in the annual Franschhoek Open Gardens, La Motte Wine Estate will open its private rose gardens to the public during the weekend of 25 - 27 October 2019.

Visitors to Franschhoek Open Gardens and guests to the estate are invited to enjoy the splendour of an old-fashioned rose garden amongst the romantic ambience of La Motte’s historic buildings. The abundant rose garden hosts 19 types of roses amongst which is the Hybrid Tea rose KORsebue, named after La Motte’s owner and once one of South Africa’s leading mezzo sopranos, Hanneli Rupert.

Planted in a classic and formal style, the rose garden with its fountain and pathways are surrounded by indigenous shrubberies and traditional fruit trees such as quince, pomegranate and figs supplying Pierneef à La Motte restaurant.

Patrons to Pierneef à La Motte restaurant during this weekend can expect the creative use of roses as an ingredient on the restaurant’s dessert menu, while Hanneli Rupert rose bushes and creative garden-inspired cakes and confectionery are available from the Farm Shop on the estate.
