La Motte Wine Estate recognised as Wine Tourism Destination of the Year



Celebrating International Tourism Day on 27 September in style, the Cape Winelands District Municipality last night announced the winners in its annual Mayoral Tourism Awards. La Motte Wine Estate in the Franschhoek Valley was recognized as the winner in the category for Tourism Destination of the Year.

“We are honoured to receive acknowledgement from our local authorities. It is recognition of this kind that motivates us to further enhance our offering,” said La Motte CEO Hein Koegelenberg. “There is no denying the importance of tourism in the Franschhoek Valley and we deliberately focus on working together to ensure the benefit to the whole community”, continued Koegelenberg who is also the Chairman of the Franschhoek Valley Tourism Association.

Speaking at the Awards Ceremony, Alderman (Dr) Helena von Schlicht, Executive Mayor of the Cape Winelands District Municipality focused on the theme for 2018’s Tourism Month: Inclusive and Quality Growth of the Tourism Sector through Digital Transformation. The theme aligns with that of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) and highlight the need for increased investment in digital technologies to create an environment for innovation and entrepreneurship in tourism.

The Mayoral Tourism Awards celebrate the achievements of the Cape Winelands tourism industry role-players and showcase the best tourism entities, products, service excellence and the people behind it. The purpose of these awards is to acknowledge those entities, products and people that excelled and continue to surpass expectations within the Cape Winelands tourism fraternity.
