Hein’s letter

Dear La Motte Friends

The energy of harvest-time is contagious – the sing-along tunes of the pickers in the vineyards, the urgency in the cellar, guests enjoying the mosbolletjies … and, of course, the quality of the grapes – the freshest of Sauvignon Blanc from Elim, small-berry Syrah from Franschhoek.

With the energy, this year, I was also slightly concerned. Temperatures were higher than usual and drought conditions affected the vines. I am, however, delighted that the quality of the grapes were much better than anticipated. Although volumes are slightly lower, Cellarmaster Edmund Terblanche’s expectations are very positive.

And while the vineyard and cellar teams are finishing off the harvest, I am also proud about the performance of our tourism offering, being recognised by the Great Wine Capitals of the World Best of Wine Tourism Awards as the winner in the category for Wine Tourism Service as well as being acknowledged – for the third time! – as the Drinks International Best Food and Wine Matching experience!

The enthusiasm of harvest-time serves as a reminder of our blessings – the beauty of the Franschhoek Valley, our passion for food, wine, art and culture – and we hope to share these with you on your next visit to La Motte!
